I live in Newark Delaware Zone 7a zip 19702 and decided to buy four camellia plants for the side of my house that gets some shade. After doing some research on the internet I decided on camellias because of their pretty winter blooms and because the need partial shade and are evergreen. Most sites said camellias were hardy up to zone 6 or 7 so I figured it would be fine. I just finished planting them, and decided to Google the breeds to find out a little more about them. Well, it looks like they are listed up to zone 8a only! I just finished planting them and plan to put a thick 4 inch layer of mulch on top to sheild to from the winter frost. Will my plants survive and still flower? Will they be too cold to do very well in my garden? The two plants I bought were Camellia japonica 'Professor Sargent' and Camellia japonica 'Nuccio's Gem'. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks again!

I think that they will bloom but you should worry about cold weather. Mulch is good but keep the plant well watered during freezes. A sheet that is sprayed with a hose can help protect them...or a light bulb. They will die due to cold so be careful.
