Why do my pink camellia flowers turn brown and fall off prematurely?
camelias like a little shade from the wind, if it is in a windy spot at this time of year it will not do well, also any frost no matter how little will cause it to become brown and buds fall off, you could try covering the plant with bubble wrap or other inexpensive protector every night till frosts are gone but if using bubble wrap you must take it off during the day as it cannot breath
Reply:Is it planted in ericaceous (not sure if spelling 100% correct) soil? I suspect it would also benefit from being in a sunny position.
Reply:That sounds as though they're getting too dry, or that the air around them is too dry. You might want to consider using a soaker hose or a sprinkler hose in the area, to increase the humidity, and give them plenty of water.
Reply:Camellia grows best in semi shade and likes to be protected by a wall or a fence. Neutral to acid soil is essential. The winds that we have been having will probably be the cause of buds dropping.
Reply:All flowers need sunlight. Place it outside on a sunny day and bring it in in the evening. Also your soil quality may not be good, so give it some plant food and of course water
Reply:don't let water touch the buds!

don't over water

they like morning sun
Reply:Did you water them.
Reply:Lil and Fitz gave you the right answers. Camellia's don't like to have moisture of their flower petals. If you'll notice at the nursery where they sell Camilla's---they will always hand water them down low around the base of the plant. If you are growing your Camilla's in a container---follow the same practice and your brown spots will disappear. If you are growing your Camilla's outside the problem is a little more difficult. Many times a landscaper will plant Camilla's under the eves of the house or under a patio cover---anything that will keep rain and dew off the plants. The other solution is to cut the flowers just as the buds start to open---once inside you should have a beautiful bloom in a day or two. If that doesn't fix the problem---just remember that the leaves on a Camilla are so beautiful that you can almost justify growing the plants to enjoy the foliage!
Reply:Rain does this to Camellia flowers if they are blooming during rainy times.
